3 Red Flags to Watch For:

• Mud Tubes: Pencil-sized tunnels climbing your foundation.
• Discarded Wings: Small piles on windowsills after a swarm.
• Hollow Wood: If a beam sounds "papery" when tapped, the interior may be gone.

Stucco cracks are a natural part of the curing process, but overtime, even hairline fractures can lead to severe water damage if they aren't addressed!

What should I look out for?

• Hairline cracks: Although they appear to be cosmetic and begin thinner than a credit card, as these cracks widen, they create "open doors" for water and need to be sealed as soon as possible!
• Hidden Damage: Keep an eye out for bulging and staining, if you notice your stucco has a "spongy" texture or a brown crusty trail leaking from the cracks, these are signs of wood rot and trapped water that have infiltrated your stucco!
• Keep your Weep Screed clean: As you look out for damages, ensure the metal vent at the bottom of the wall isn't buried in dirt! It needs to "breathe" to allow airflow and keep moisture out.

Aside from "curb appeal", keeping your home clear of debris is the first line of defense for your home's structural health!

• Moisture- Allowing debris such as mulch and wet leaves to sit on your home causes moisture build up leading to rot, mold, and "stucco rot" that can seep into your home's framing.
• Pest Control: Although debris is unappealing in our eyes, they are luxury hotels for termites, rodents and ants! A clear home prevents the chances of infestation.
• Fire Safety: As the sun shines and temperatures rise and dry out brush and accumulated clutter, these increase risky chances of acting as fuel for fire starters.
